Experience Highlights

REDCINE-X application for Red One video cameras

1.) For client Usability.pro, worked on the REDCINE-X application deliverable a free app for high resolution Red One Video camera owners 2.) Qt was used as a cross-platform development tool for a consistent Windows and Mac OS desktop app 3.) Wrote all the C++ QuickTime conversion code called natively from the Qt app to export from the Red proprietary format used in the app to all available audio and video codecs including H.264, MPEG-4, AAC, AC3, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, Advanced Apple Codecs and others 4.) Added a bunch of UX features and fixed issues in the UX. Added a file browser to select Red One videos 5.) Added magnet-type feature to UX windows such that when a dragged window comes closer to another it automatically clips onto it I do not remember exactly how I did that. 5.) Added different formatting options to produce video at different aspect ratios such as 4:3 vs. 16:9 vs. others 6.) Added different formatting options to save video at different resolutions 7.) Added capability to export different segments of video as selected by editing and multi-plexing segments and audio into one video export 8.) Delivered the app on time with scheduled milestones using Agile to meet deadlines 9.) Red who had hired Usability.pro to build the app was very satisfied with the deliverable

MVP for DoubleBeam startup company

1) My client DoubleBeam wanted a viable MVP (minimum viable product) to secure funding for the first round. 2) From the ground up I designed, implemented and deployed a viable MVP for loyalty card redemption at POS. 3) As technical lead on project, I wrote the entire back-end server code in Ruby on Rails including business objects for consumers, loyalty cards, redemption of promotions (buy 5 get 1 free for example), stores, context-based store search parameters, generation of QR Codes for scanning. Plus put together a salt-based authentication system for both consumers and store managers. 4) As technical lead I delegated to two other engineers one who assisted with context-based search and other parts of the server and another who put together thin Android and IPhone client applications. The applications had both a consumer version and a store manager or employee version. 5) As technical lead I contributed to important decisions such as who to hire, software purchases and to use QR Code scanning as a means to redeem loyalty cards at POS. 6) Worked closely with two different UX designers to integrate two different website designs with back-end servers. 7) Worked closely with app dev to create clean REST to JSON api for use in thin apps. 8) Added css and DHTML features to website such as in page email address validation showing error if email already exists in system, other in page validations, QR Code verification sent asynchronously without page refresh, etc. 9) Used Atlassian JIRA to fix and track bugs, basecamp for project management and github for private repos. 8) Finished MVP on time and deployed MVP solution to heroku. 9) After doing some benchmarking and realizing server would not scale to multiple concurrent users on heroku set up and deployed solution to Amazon AWS which did scale. 10) Viable MVP candidate led to $1M in financing for startup and deal with Homeland Grocery Stores. 11) Homeland Grocery Stores used MVP based solution to redeem actual loyalty cards at POS. 12) Unfortunately MVP solution is no longer online because company was bought by Vodafone.

I Walk Because iPhone App

1.) For Studio PMG client, I was contracted to work with a UX designer and implement an end-to-end iPhone app for multiple sclerosis patients at special events. 2.) This was an internal app used by medical professionals and patient interviewers to enter the information for MS patients at walk events. 3.) I also worked with a SCRUM manager to meet project milestones. 4.) I implemented the provided wireframes in Interface Builder with the back-end Objective-C code in XCode for retaining the patient information until it is ready to be posted up to a central server. 5.) I created all of the UX elements: buttons, switches and text fields and stored the patient information locally in a sqlite 3 db on the phone. 5.) String pattern matching was used for the text fields such that phone numbers are only digits for example. 6.) Because the patient interviewers may not have a reliable WiFi connection at these events, I set up a background thread that pings for a connection. The patient data is stored locally until a connection is available and then posted to a central server. 7.) The app was delivered fully functional on-time and the client was very satisfied.

Rx Sample Track iPhone app

1.) For Good People, I designed a user interface and wrote from scratch an iPhone application for pharmacists to upload medications and their signature to a back-end server 2.) This was for an internal app not available in the App Store 3.) I put together the app using XCode, Objective-C and Interface Builder 4.) I used a simple logo design provided by the client and integrated this logo into a homogeneous page design and architected the flow for the app 5.) At a POS, the pharmacist could select medications and amounts from a presented list. I retrieved this list from a server and then displayed it in the app 6.) The pharmacist could then add a signature by signing using his/her finger. Varying line width by velocity the signature looked fairly realistic 7.) I then wrote the networking code to upload the medication information and signature to another server 8.) Upon delivery of the app the client was very satisfied
