I built the industrial electricity billing system for EdERSA, the electricity company for the Río Negro province, Argentina. I was the sole contractor for this project, and thus was in charge of all aspects of the development: assessment, analysis, design, data model, application architecture, testing coordination and production setup. The project was developed in Visual Basic 6 + MSSQL 7.0. The design was a 3 layer app: data model, business rules and billing engine (running on a central server), and desktop clients accessing the business objects from each office. The core of the billing process is a set of equations relating 13 different variables which are read from the meter each month, and taking into consideration different exceptions to the rule by company activity, location or other elements. The system was used for the complete monthly billing, generating 100,000+ bills each month for several years until replaced with more modern technology.
