The project aims to establish a test infrastructure supporting unit, UI, and integration testing for the Android project. Tests will validate new features and code changes before merging into the main repository, ensuring no code is merged without passing all build-time tests. This prevents regressions and confirms functionality. The infrastructure will pinpoint failing methods or code, making debugging easier. Generating test coverage reports with Codecov is a key goal, helping identify untested areas and improving overall test coverage and reliability.
Rocket.Chat team has been releasing updates via the Google Play Store. However, in countries where Play Services are unavailable, users cannot access the app. To address this, Rocket.Chat can use F-Droid, a widely accessible, community-maintained repository for FOSS Android apps. The legacy client, now replaced by React Native, needs an F-Droid update. Additionally, this project will integrate Fastlane to automate Play Console uploads, improve CI workflows, and create jobs for generating separate builds for F-Droid and Play Store, saving time and improving efficiency
