Experience Highlights

SharePoint Solution Architect - Retail

The team started the work on this project in the 4th quarter of 2015. The customer's main requirement then was to fix up the SharePoint Platform due lack of functionality and performance issues. During the project initialization, it became very clear that several requirements of the business units couldn't be fulfilled due to vendor lock-ins caused by add-ons for the platform. So the customer decided to "swith gears" and required a holistic approach including comprehensive requirements analysis, user stories and a SCRUM approach. At that time, I was engaged as Solution Architect in the project. This holistic approach also meant that collaboration capabilities should be implemented for each and every regional hierarchy level (country, region, shop). Also, multi-language capabilites were an important requirement. Furthermore, several workflows were required by the business units. Together with 8 architects and developers and further 6 customers employees, we implemented a completely new platform with three stages and fully automated development, testing and releasing processes. For fulfilling the requirements of the customer, individual development was required. Although Office 365 was already present on the market at that time, the customization capabilities of the cloud platform hasn't been sufficient.

SharePoint Solution Architect - Professional Service

In 2012, the customer - a big professional service company with WW presence - started an initiative to overhaul the application portfolio. The main major requirements were: * Tightly connect SAP with Microsoft Office SharePoint server * Provide easy-to-use templates for the different engagement types * Automate the project creation, execution and billing workflow Together with 5 solution architects and developers, we analyzed the requirements, compiled user stories and implemented those. Top priority for implementation was an excellent UX design and eas-of use for the professional consultants. Furthermore, a completely new collaboration infrastructure was designed and implemented: * Development, Test, QA and Production stages * Fully automated development and deployment processes and workflows Although cloud offerings have already been available at that time, those were not an option due to data privacy issues. So the whole infrastructure was implemented on premise - mainly using virtual machines on big computing/storage clusters.

SharePoint Solution Architect - Automotive

When I was engaged in this project, I was introduced to and outdated and very complex intranet based on old versions of server products. Furthermore, I figured out that several proprietary add-ons were implemented which significantly decreased response times and overall performance. Most important requirements in this project were: * Migrate to actual releases * Stick to out-of-the-box functionality * Significantly speed up content development, translation and distribution * Reduce implementation and operation costs Together with SMEs I elaborated the most important use cases together with the business units and documented those. We chose the approach of user stories with belonging acceptance criteria bound to specific business capabilities. We then implemented those use cases in several PoCs. This included 11 languages and also mobile access. After successful sign-of by the customer, all deliverables where handed over to a newly chosen service provider who implemented the intranet in their infrastructure.

Head of Intergration and Architecture

When I joined the IT team in 2019, the customer faced several problems in the areas of overall governance, architectural standards and re-sourcing activities. My main activies in this first phase were: * Establish a suitable team setup * Develop effective decision processes * Overhaul existing architectural standards Due to several M&A activities, an additional task was to overcome cultural challenges. The following phase included an overhauling of the requirement engineering process to allow effective prioritizing and realzing of business needs. For this, I introduced the concept of benefits management. With that, each requirement had clear acceptance critera. Furthermore, the optimization potential became transparent. Together with a team of 4 integration architects and 3 more solution architects, we built transparency in the IT portfolio by modelling the infrastructure and application portfolio in an appropriate EA toolsuite. I also lead some infrastructure harmonization projects which were tied to re-sourcing activities.

Enterprise Architect Client Service Portofolio

In 2009, we faced the situation that the customer didn't have a comprehensive definition of the service portfolio in the end user computing area. Consequently, there was no solid calculation of costs and benefits. Furthermore, the customer asked us to clearly show possible options for optimization and to evaluate optimization potential. Due to the corporate strategy of shared development between brands and highly standardization of processes, collaboration functionality quickly showed up as essential for the whole group. Key deliverables of our work were: * A clearly defined service portfolio with solid KPIs * The scope and organization for a program of change * Comprehensive project plans * Controlling and reporting strategies for the program of change With these deliverable, the customer was able to standardize and harmonize the end user computing environment for several brands in the group - inlcluding new strategies for buying or leasing computer systems and peripherals. Also, backend services like authentication, authorization, file/print and collaboration have been overhauled.
