Goal - The project's goal was to address the client's important issue of slow search performance in their SQL database, which housed a large collection of candidate resumes. The primary goal was to improve search capabilities by making them faster and more efficient. Contribution - 1. Developed customised Elasticsearch mapping templates to improve search capabilities. 2. Created a Python migration script that extracts data from SQL, transforms that and create a doc into Elasticsearch. The script takes care of bulk writing and threading. 3. To speed up the migration, I created an automated setup process for Elasticsearch templates and indices. Outcome - The switch to Elasticsearch significantly increased search performance, turning the slow and unresponsive SQL database into a highly effective tool for browsing and searching resumes of potential candidates allowing to search on different fields.
