Experience Highlights

Travel web site

A client asked me to build a website allowing service clubs (such as Rotary Clubs, Elks Clubs, etc.) to post trips they were organizing, and to allow interested travelers to search for trips, view trip details, and request information/reservations. I worked with the client to learn about the requirements and their ideas for the site and then implemented the website to match their vision. I built the website using PHP, Bootstrap 5, JavaScript/jQuery, Ajax, HTML5/CSS3, and a MySQL database which I also designed and implemented.

Auto Insurance quoting website

An insurance agency asked me to build a website that would allow people to easily receive and compare auto insurance quotes from multiple providers at once. I worked with the client to learn their requirements and come up with a design to match their vision. I then implemented the web site using PHP, Bootstrap, JavaScript/jQuery, Ajax, and HTML5/CSS3. I also designed and implemented a MySQL database to store information collected from users as well as drive much of the information displayed on the site. A third-party REST API.

Large scale web development for financial company

Fundment Limited asked me to build three sections of their web site: a signup/create new account section, and two different Dashboard sections (for different types of clients). I implemented the various sections of the website using PHP, Bootstrap, JavaScript/jQuery, Ajax, HTML5/CSS3, and a MySQL database. Common functionality shared between different sections of the website was encapsulated (using classes in PHP and JavaScript, and include files in HTML). I designed and implemented much of the database used to store the data and wrote many of the (sometimes complex) queries for retrieving the data displayed. The Google Charts API was used to implement the various charts displayed to the user. Reports were implemented by querying the database for the required data, generating the report in HTML and using mPDF to generate a pdf file from the generated HTML. The signup section consisted of a series of pages (navigated with next and previous buttons) containing a questionnaire (gathering information on the user's investment objectives and risk tolerance), followed by a series of pages collecting the user's personal information and guiding them through the account setup process. These pages also allowed the user to save their progress, and return at a later time to complete the signup and account creation process. The questionnaire pages were built to be database driven so that different questionnaires could be used for different types of clients. Each Dashboard section contained multiple pages accessed by navigation bars. Features of the Dashboards included: • displaying of account information such as transactions, holdings, etc. • displaying of performance and allocation charts • editing of profile and account information • creation of new (and modification of existing) portfolios • ability to run performance simulations • a notification system • generation of reports that could be viewed/downloaded by users

Website for Small Software Company

Completely redesigned and reimplemented the web site of a small software company to give the site a more modern look and feel, make it responsive to ensure it worked well on smaller screens, and enhance the shopping cart integration. Development was done using PHP, Bootstrap, and JavaScript/jQuery.

Boy Scout Venture Crew Web Site

A new boy scout venture crew needed a web site to provide general information about the crew, display information from a Google calendar about upcoming events, allow forms and documents to be downloaded, and display photos from events. They also wanted to be able to easily update site content and upload documents and photos without the need to know HTML. I designed and implemented this web site for them, incorporating all their requests. To display event information, I used the Google API to read upcoming events from their Google calendar and display them on the home page. I also embedded their Google calendar on one of site's pages so that the full calendar can be viewed when desired. Photos are displayed via a slideshow (with the user able to control the slideshow with start, pause, previous, and next controls) for each event. JavaScript was used to implement the slideshow. I created administration pages (requiring a login) to allow the site content to be easily updated and documents and photos for the site to be securely uploaded. I designed and created a MySQL database to store login and content information. PHP, and in some places AJAX, are used to read and store information in the database and to generate much of the site content.
