The goal of this project was to create an extremely scalable web application. To accomplish high scalability, this app was designed using a microservice architecture that used the NATS message que for communication. All of the services are written in Golang with the exception of the payment service, which is written in Node.js. Additionally, each of these services uses MongoDB for data storage. The program’s overall functionality is as follows. Once a user clicks “Submit Order” on the frontend service, an order is created, the sales data is validated, the shipping address is validated via the EasyPost api, the payment is submitted to the Braintree API, the order is shipped via the EasyPost API, the payment is marked as complete via the Braintree API, a packingslip is then created with the shipping label, and lastly an email is sent to the customer with all of the order information. The dashboard that manages the internal processes was written in Angular 2/4 using Material Design. This web application, allows an internal user to authenticate in order to view orders, print pending orders, and view any errors that may have occurred. This application is deployed using docker containers and was tested to be used on a Kubernetes cluster. This app is not running on Kubernetes in production due to the cost associated with running a Kubernetes cluster. However, this app is deployed and managed using docker compose.
