Brian L. Backend, Frontend and Cloud Platforms

My name is Brian L. and I have over 7 years of experience in the tech industry. I specialize in the following technologies: Java, jQuery, Java Servlet API, HTML, Jakarta Server Pages, etc.. I hold a degree in Bachelor of Science (BS). Some of the notable projects I’ve worked on include: AbbVie Contract Manufacturing AEM Full Site Build, Walgreens AEM Custom Implementation and Rebuild, Biogen "Brainbank" AEM Site Theme, AEM Bluegrass Cellular Implementation, Awards & Open Source Contributions. I am based in Mokena, United States. I've successfully completed 5 projects while developing at Softaims.

I specialize in architecting and developing scalable, distributed systems that handle high demands and complex information flows. My focus is on building fault-tolerant infrastructure using modern cloud practices and modular patterns. I excel at diagnosing and resolving intricate concurrency and scaling issues across large platforms.

Collaboration is central to my success; I enjoy working with fellow technical experts and product managers to define clear technical roadmaps. This structured approach allows the team at Softaims to consistently deliver high-availability solutions that can easily adapt to exponential growth.

I maintain a proactive approach to security and performance, treating them as integral components of the design process, not as afterthoughts. My ultimate goal is to build the foundational technology that powers client success and innovation.

Experience Highlights

AbbVie Contract Manufacturing AEM Full Site Build

This was a full site build of a wholly new site, based off of WCM Core Components, and then extended and enhanced with numerous custom AEM Components. I was handed a collection of designs, broke those down into their composite pieces, and specced out the complete project, from start to finish. I functioned as the architect and development lead, building all backend components and services, as well as the subject matter expert regarding implementation challenges that came up as part of the project. One notable challenge was integrating with a 3rd-party application whose documentation didn't match the actual API responses, so a great deal of debugging and determining exactly how this API functioned was necessary to permit form submissions.

Walgreens AEM Custom Implementation and Rebuild

Brought in initially to clean up numerous broken and non-functional components that were left by a large consulting firm. From there, became the lead developer, and drove a multi-phase project to revitalize and rebuild the home page, create new custom components (such as a video & podcast player), and integrated the site with multiple improved technologies, such as Structured Content Fragments and ACS AEM Commons Shared Component Properties.

Biogen "Brainbank" AEM Site Theme

This site is built using an existing collection of Page Templates and AEM Components, then is themed via custom LESS and JavaScript files that AEM builds into its clientlibs. This site heavily relied on AEM's style system to add classes to components that the LESS/CSS were able to target to allow for a small collection of components to have multiple different ways to render. To expedite the development process for this site, HTML of the base content was exported, and then a webpack project was created in order to rapidly build out the styling for the frontend theme.

AEM Bluegrass Cellular Implementation

Bluegrass Cellular was a small, regional cellular provider in Kentucky. I worked as a developer on this project, building numerous AEM Components that utilized VueJS to connect to a Magento 2 (M2) headless environment to retrieve product and customer information via GraphQL queries. These included components to "build" your cellular plan (called The Builder), a checkout component, phone and device details, and various store locator components. Bluegrass Cellular has since been purchased and absorbed by Verizon.

Awards & Open Source Contributions

Project to display any awards or major open source contributions. In 2018, I was one of the winners of the AEM Community Code Contest by creating a Custom ContextHub Segmentation Store and UI Module. I also presented on the same topic at Adobe Immerse that year. I was part of the team that built the Shard Component Properties module for ACS AEM Commons.
