I was responsible for the IT infrastructure in the early days of Tradeshift. I setup a fully automated infrastructure using two cloud providers, Amazon and Rackspace and Puppet. The system consisted of several development environments for the development teams, internal and external sandbox environments for partners, and staging and production environments. I automated the deployment procedure using MCollective & Hudson, giving developers the possibility to deploy to staging and other environments. Using Hudson we implemented continuous integration and deployment to development & sandbox environments. Using Puppet we implemented a highly flexible, easy and fast management of our infrastructure making it possible to recreate our infrastructure within minutes from scratch. Furthermore nagios, zabbix and appdynamics were setup for monitoring and profiling, using auto registration, tagging and classification of servers. Other assignments includes but are not limited to setting up streaming replication on the database, making & implementing a backup strategy, disaster recovery strategy, security procedures and penetration testing.
Aim was to build an automation platform that could be used for self-service by developers and IT Opp to setup IT-Infrastructure in Minutes. Integrations to cloud providers such as AWS, Rackspace and other were built. I used Puppet to automate blueprints / modules to install various types of software for both single tier usage and multi-tier usage, rolling out monitoring and log analytics and backup automatically for each server.
